Have you ever been to an old Japanese style cafe?
There are those cafes in Japan. Most of those have a homey atmosphere and great exterior!
If you go to those cafes , you might be able to learn about Japanese culture.
This article introduces one of those cafes, “Kayaba Coffee” in Nezu, Tokyo.
The coronavirus is going around, so you won’t be able to go to Japan now. When things return to normal, I recommend you go to Japan and this cafe!
Established in 1938! The retro cafe are loved by many people
It takes about ten minutes from Nippori station (JR line).
This cafe is on the corner of the street. The house is a two story house.
The exterior has a wooden wall and yellow signature. The sign that is written on the cafe’s name on a retro font is a good point in a brown exterior.
You might think there is a tatami floor as soon as you open the entrance. But you will feel betrayed by it, in a good way!
There is a stylish space on the first floor. Many furniture are used from the Showa era. For example, a counter of the brick materials and leather covered sofas.
If it isn’t crowded, you will be shown into the second floor. It has a tatami floor!
Do you know “Tatami”?
“Tatami” is a Japanese traditional flooring made of straws. Some Japanese houses still use it like my parent’s house!!
Most Japanese can be relaxed when they smell it.
You might experience a Japanese traditional culture because “Kayaba Coffee” also uses “Tatami”.
When you go up the stairs, you have to turn off your shoes.
You will be more relaxed than the flooring space.
Old Japanese style cafes are very popular around young people and foreigners. Of course, this cafe too!
Because of that, this cafe might be crowded on weekends.
If you want to go there definitely, you should make a reservation from the site below.
Delicious menus that you can’t eat anywhere else
“Egg sandwiches” is really fluffy!
I recommend eating “Egg sandwiches” if you go there.
Fluffy omelet is put between two slices of a little sour bread. It’s steamed from an omelet because it’s freshly cooked.
You can order it in the morning. The breakfast has salad, soup and egg sandwich on the plate.
It isn’t crowded in the morning, so you will have a good time at the cafe while eating sandwiches.
What’s “Russian”?
“Russian” is also my recommendation.
Can you imagine it?
“Russian” is a drink that contains half coffee and half cocoa.
Unlike Café au lait, it tastes a little bitter and a little sweet.
This drink has been a popular menu item from the time of foundation.
You will be able to feel the history of the cafe.
Egg Sandwiches 1,000 yen
Russian 600 yen
